Julia
I’ve known Julia since 2015. She’s the kind of client you look forward to seeing; laid-back, straight-talking, and always up for a good chat. Her usual appointment is pretty simple: a root touch-up to cover those pesky greys, a trim, a lot of thinning out. Brown or reddy brown, nothing too fussy. She knows what she wants and never holds back what she’s thinking and I love that about her.
But late last year, she sat down in the chair, ran her hands through her hair and asked, “Why isn’t my hair shiny anymore?”
It made me pause. Julia’s hair had always been healthy and easy to manage. At first, we thought maybe it was just the time of year. Winter can be harsh, with central heating and cold winds sucking the moisture out of everything. We went through the usual checklist: hydration, diet, haircare routine. Nothing had changed.
That’s when we started talking about menopause.
We realised that what Julia was noticing wasn’t about external changes; it was internal. Her hair texture had changed, becoming drier and duller, even though she was doing everything right. The culprit? Hormonal shifts during menopause.
Together, we came up with a plan to bring the gloss and moisture back. I recommended a leave-in conditioner to help with hydration at home. Something simple she could use between washes. Then, during her appointment, we added a gloss quasi-colour to her ends to boost shine and richness. I also mixed in Goldwell Bond Pro with the gloss for an added boost of strength and condition.
Since then, it’s made such a difference. Her hair is softer, shinier, and much more manageable and more importantly, Julia feels good about it again.
A word from Julia.
“I hadn’t even thought it could be menopause. I just thought my hair had lost its sparkle! Claire helped me figure it out without making me feel silly, and the difference after just one appointment was amazing. My hair feels like me again. Softer, shinier and not so blah. I’m so glad I asked the question.”
