Japanese Head Spa: Menopause needs
I was lucky enough to experience a Japanese Head Spa recently and let me tell you, it was incredible. I headed over to the gorgeous Acacia Beauty & Aesthetics to try their new Head Spa treatment, and I’ve genuinely never floated out of a salon the way I did after this one. Over an hour of pure indulgence: tailored scalp massage, warm water flowing through my hair, relaxing music, and luxurious oils… bliss.
But beyond the dreamy experience, there’s so much happening beneath the surface—especially if you’re going through peri-menopause or menopause. That’s why I asked the lovely team at Acacia Beauty to share more about the benefits of this beautiful treatment, particularly for those of us navigating midlife hair and scalp challenges.

What Is a Japanese Head Spa?
Rooted in traditional Japanese wellness rituals, a Head Spa is far more than a fancy shampoo. It’s a holistic treatment for your scalp, combining deep cleansing, acupressure massage, steam therapy, and skincare-inspired hair care. Think of it as a facial for your scalp; complete with exfoliation, serums, and techniques that promote deep relaxation and total rejuvenation.

Why Japanese head spas are a Dream for Menopausal Hair
When we enter menopause, falling oestrogen levels can have a big impact on our hair. You might notice increased shedding, finer texture, dryness, or scalp sensitivity. Hormonal shifts affect the hair growth cycle and reduce collagen and sebum production making strands more brittle and the scalp less nourished.
This is exactly where the Japanese Head Spa shines.
The acupressure massage used during the treatment boosts blood flow to the scalp, delivering more oxygen and nutrients to the hair follicles. This improved circulation is essential for maintaining healthy hair growth and reducing shedding. Many women notice their scalp feels calmer, their roots stronger, and their hair more vibrant over time.
Stress Less, Grow More
Stress and menopause are not the best of friends. Chronic stress can elevate cortisol levels, which further disrupts hormone balance and yes, that includes affecting your hair. The soothing massage techniques used in a Head Spa are designed to activate pressure points across the scalp, neck, and shoulders, easing muscle tension, boosting lymphatic drainage, and lowering stress levels.
And while the treatment doesn’t directly alter your hormones, the knock-on benefits of deep relaxation and improved circulation can absolutely help ease some of the side effects we often struggle with during midlife.

Tailored Products & Techniques
Every Japanese Head Spa session at Acacia Beauty & Aesthetics is completely bespoke. Your scalp condition is carefully assessed via a microscope camera and discussed; whether it’s dry, oily, flaky, sensitive, or showing signs of inflammation. Then, specific products are chosen to target those issues, often containing powerful natural ingredients such as:
Ginseng – known to stimulate hair growth by improving circulation.
Saw Palmetto – often used to support hormonal balance and reduce shedding.
Lavender & Cedar wood – soothing essential oils that calm the scalp and promote relaxation.
Steam is used to open the pores, allowing the active ingredients to penetrate deeply and work more effectively, just like in a good facial.

How Often Should You Book?
If you’re looking to support your hair and scalp through menopause, a Head Spa every 4–6 weeks is ideal. Regular treatments help maintain scalp health, support the hair growth cycle, and keep tension at bay.
Between visits, you can maintain the benefits with:
Gentle scalp massage
Sulphate-free, hydrating shampoos
Nourishing hair masks
A soft, silk pillowcase to reduce friction and breakage
Lifestyle Tips That Boost Results
The Head Spa is powerful, but pairing it with a healthy lifestyle supercharges the results. A diet rich in iron, biotin, zinc, and omega fatty acids helps nourish hair from within. Staying hydrated, managing stress with movement or mindfulness, and getting enough sleep all support hormonal balance and hair health.

Would I do it again?
Whether you’re knee-deep in menopause or just beginning your journey, a Japanese Head Spa might be the soothing, nourishing ritual your hair and scalp have been crying out for. It’s one of those treatments where you feel the benefits immediately and notice the results build with time.
Huge thanks to the incredible team at Acacia Beauty & Aesthetics for this uplifting, eye-opening experience. If you’re curious or struggling with hair changes, I couldn’t recommend it more. You might just float out the door like I did.
(Please note this was not gifted, I paid for this treatment. I was super happy and wanted to share.)
