My menopause journey to helping with menopausal hair.

In 2023, I began my chemical menopause journey at the age of 38. Every three months, I received an injection to help manage my PMDD, and it wholeheartedly threw me into the deep end of menopause. This experience was life-changing, not only personally but also professionally, as I discovered just how many women are silently struggling.
Many of my clients felt they were too young to talk to their doctor or couldn’t get an appointment. Others thought it was all in their heads. I found that menopause still isn’t discussed openly—unless in a joking manner. Yes, it's fantastic that more information is available and that people like Davina McCall are starting conversations, but my clients still didn’t know who to turn to. It made me realise we are the first generation truly talking about it, and there is still so much more to do.
I decided to be open about my own experiences with my clients—whether it was explaining why my jumper went on and off 20 times or why I needed them to repeat themselves because multitasking just doesn’t work for me anymore! To my surprise, this honesty encouraged them to open up about their own symptoms. I discovered that many of them were feeling just like me, and suddenly, my menopause became a kind of superpower.
The biggest concern my clients expressed was that they no longer felt like themselves. Their hair wasn’t the same—some were losing it, others noticed it lacked shine, and they felt drab and frumpy. Imposter syndrome, depression, and anxiety were common themes. It was clear that they needed support, not just medically but also emotionally, especially in feeling confident and comfortable in their own skin.
That’s when I decided to help them find real solutions. Not medical advice—I could only share what I had discovered myself—but practical, experience-based tips to help them feel good again. I realised that if your hair feels good, you’re already halfway to feeling like yourself again. But when I started looking for hair care advice for menopausal women, I found very little out there. Most of the information was generic, like "take biotin," which isn’t always a one-size-fits-all solution.
This gap inspired me to create something new—a space where women could find personalised hair care advice and feel supported. I thought of all the women sitting in salons, needing help, while their stylists might not know how to provide it. As hairdressers, we know so much about our clients' lives—it’s said people would rather talk to their hairdresser than a therapist!
So, why not create a welcoming space for menopausal women to come, chat, and feel amazing? Because when your hair feels good, you can take on the world!
Please remember I’m not a medical professional, I can not help with anything medical. I can only recommend off what my clients and my self have found to work and tell you my story to help. Please always check with your doctor before you try supplements or exercise.
